Residents of one of the houses on Madonas Street in Jekabpils had to watch a dangerous rampage under their windows for almost an hour. A young man was waving knives, throwing bottles, and inflicting injuries on himself while police and medics tried to detain him.
According to eyewitnesses, the man was behaving aggressively and unpredictably. Police, medics, and rescuers arrived at the scene.
One of the neighbors told the Degpunktā program (TV3) that the man was throwing bottles at an ambulance and throwing various items out of his apartment.
"There was an ambulance here, he was throwing bottles on the roof of the ambulance. Everything shattered, there was glass everywhere," the woman said.
According to eyewitnesses, the man inflicted serious injuries on himself even before law enforcement arrived. Witnesses claim he smashed glass bottles against his face and then returned to the apartment several times for knives.
"He ran home three times and brought knives three times," one of the witnesses said.
Several services had to be involved to detain him. Ultimately, it was not necessary to break down the apartment door — the homeowner brought spare keys, after which the man was handed over to the medics.
Later, the participant in the incident referred to the event as a spectacle in a conversation with the program.
"It was some kind of circus. A clown show. Ha-ha! I was released from the mental hospital. They took me to Daugavpils. Instead of detaining me here, they took me to Daugavpils without money, without a phone, without a belt. I went outside — my pants were falling down. Magnificent!" he stated.
Neighbors say that the man moved into the building recently. Until now, the main complaints were only about loud music.
The State Police reported that no procedural actions were taken against the man. Since the harm was only inflicted on himself, neither criminal nor administrative proceedings were initiated.
