For unknown reasons, garbage caught fire at the sorted waste site of "Vidusdaugavas SPAAO," reported board member Alexey Yankovsky.
He explained that sorted materials are burning, which are located in a separate area on the paved site. The territory is fenced off. The State Police is working at the scene.
State Police representative Liga Dziluma reported that the State Police has initiated a criminal process, but there is currently no further information available.
As reported, on Saturday, May 30, at 20:45, the State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received a call to the Mežāre parish of the Jūrmala municipality, where garbage was burning over an area of 430 square meters. On Sunday, shortly before 5:00, the fire was localized, but work at the scene is still ongoing.
In 2025, the turnover of "Vidusdaugavas SPAAO" was 3.467 million euros, with losses amounting to 15,740 euros, according to information from "Firmas.lv."
The company was registered in 2005, with a share capital of 41,910 euros. 42.33% of the capital of "Vidusdaugavas SPAAO" belongs to the Jūrmala municipality, 30.67% to the Aizkraukle municipality, and 27% to the Madona municipality.
