The tragic accident in Mersrags shocked the entire town. 10-year-old Miks was riding his bicycle to a rehearsal of the school dance group when he was hit by a car. The boy was taken to the hospital in serious condition, but he could not be saved.

The tragedy occurred on Friday in Mersrags. 10-year-old Miks was riding his bicycle to the village center for a rehearsal of the school dance group when he was hit by a car on a gravel road, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

After the collision, the child sustained severe injuries. Medics transported the boy to the Children's Hospital, where doctors fought for his life for several hours.

Miks's mother, Jana, appealed to people on social media the same day, asking them to pray for her son.

"Maybe the strength and prayers of all of you will create a miracle," she wrote.

However, the next morning it became known that the boy had passed away.

For the small town of Mersrags, this was a real shock. At the local secondary school where Miks studied, a memorial place was created in his memory. The school acknowledges that the tragedy has heavily impacted both the students and the teachers — in the small village, many know each other well.

According to the school principal, Miks was a very active child: he played football and floorball, and was considered one of the best dancers in the school folk dance group.

That day, a concert of dance groups from the Talsi region was supposed to take place at the Egerejas stage, and Miks was also preparing to perform.

A few days ago, the boy received his bicycle license and was very happy about the opportunity to ride his bike independently. Usually, after school, he took the bus to his activities, but on the day of the tragedy, the rehearsal started later, so he rode by himself.

Witnesses report that medics and police worked at the scene for a long time after the accident.

"There were two ambulances and two or three police cars," a local resident said.

The driver of the car was a 65-year-old man. According to preliminary reports, the driver may not have maintained a safe distance from the child riding ahead.

The State Police reported that the driver was sober, and a criminal case has been initiated regarding the accident.

The car belongs to the "Central Laboratory." The company stated that the driver has worked there for several years and had not previously been involved in any accidents with injuries. The company also contacted the family of the deceased boy and expressed its willingness to provide assistance.

Miks's story has become a tragedy not only for one family but for the entire small community of Mersrags, where the loss of the child has been felt particularly painfully.
