The oil depot LLC "East-West Transit" in Rezekne, affected by drone strikes, will not resume operations due to employee safety concerns, representatives of "East-West Transit" told the LETA agency.

The company stated that the damage from the drones is minor and will be covered by the insurance company. The exact amount of the damage was not disclosed by the company.

At the same time, due to the fact that the enterprise cannot ensure the safety of its employees, the management of "East-West Transit" decided not to continue operations at the Rezekne oil depot, the company reported.

More detailed comments were not provided to the LETA agency by the company.

As reported, several unmanned aerial vehicles entered Latvia's airspace early on May 7, two of which crashed into the "East-West Transit" oil depot in Rezekne.

At the scene, it was determined that as a result of external impact, four oil tanks were damaged, which contained no petroleum products. The cladding of one of the tanks was smoldering over an area of 30 square meters, and the fire was promptly extinguished.

In November 2024, the Riga City Court announced the legal protection process for "East-West Transit" and approved a plan of measures, initially setting a four-year implementation period.

Information from "Firmas.lv" indicates that in 2023, the turnover of "East-West Transit" amounted to 119.901 million euros, while losses were 4.204 million euros. More recent financial data has not been published.

The company was registered in 1996, with a share capital of 3.261 million euros.
