A nighttime fire in Marupe nearly destroyed a family home — the fire started in the garage and quickly spread to the attic. The family managed to evacuate, but vehicles, part of the house, and belongings were burned, while neighbors watched the firefighters battle the flames until morning.
A large fire broke out at night in one of the private houses on Dzelzcela Street in Marupe. The fire engulfed the garage and quickly spread to the living part of the house, destroying part of the building and several vehicles.
According to the Degpunktā program (TV3), the family managed to leave the house in time, but one person was injured.
Residents of the neighborhood noticed the fire late in the evening — instead of the usual darkness, a huge flame suddenly appeared over the neighboring plot.
"As far as I understand, the shed caught fire first. And the height of the flame was about ten meters. Because of this, the fire spread to the house as well," said a neighbor.
Other residents recall that at first they did not even realize the scale of what was happening.
"From the window on the stairs, I saw a large fire. At first, I couldn't understand — I was scared that the neighbors' house was burning," said Inga, who called the rescuers.
The firefighters worked throughout the night. The fire started in the garage, after which it spread to the attic and part of the residential house.
As a result of the fire, an electric car, several motorcycles, and a trailer with a boat were destroyed.
Neighbors say that the family left the house in shock and practically without belongings.
"They were in shock themselves because they left the house without anything, without belongings," recalls Inga.
Residents of the area immediately began offering assistance and temporary housing to the victims.
According to preliminary reports, the cause of the fire could have been a short circuit while charging the electric car in the garage.
Final conclusions should be made by experts after an inspection.
Against the backdrop of the growing popularity of electric cars, the issue of charging safety in private homes is becoming increasingly relevant. Firefighters regularly remind that charging devices and electrical networks must meet safety requirements, especially in garages and outbuildings.
At the same time, specialists emphasize that the final cause of such fires is not always related to electric car batteries — a full technical examination is necessary for this.
The fire in Marupe demonstrated how quickly a fire in a garage can spread to a residential house and destroy property in a matter of minutes.
