At night in Purvciems, rescuers extinguished a fire in one of the apartments of a five-story building.
Local residents are troubled by the fact that a man's body was removed from the apartment, and long after the fire was extinguished, law enforcement continued to visit neighbors and inquire about the deceased. Given the man's lifestyle, residents suspect that a murder was committed, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
Despite the relatively large area of the fire — 20 square meters, there are no damaged household items thrown out of the apartment near the house, only the windows are blackened.
Firefighters were called to the address around midnight. Only two people had to evacuate, while others were allowed to remain in their apartments. The burned apartment was allegedly inhabited by a man who had moved in quite recently, but neighbors had already noticed him.
“Noise, noise… We walked past. (DP: Was there something related to alcohol — what were they doing there?) Sorry, I have double doors, I didn’t hear anything like that… Maybe it happened once. But there were… unpleasant people going to the one who lived there. (DP: How old was he?) About 50, a man like that,” says a neighbor.
“Specific people walked there. They didn’t live here. Sometimes you could feel that someone was smoking in the stairwell. Two of them also approached me looking for something. (DP: Were they drinking or what?) Yes, they were very 'healthy',” says another neighbor.
There are traces of blood in the stairwell and, unusually for fires, a police measuring tape is on the stairs, used for securing evidence. Law enforcement worked until the morning and interviewed local residents despite the late hour. This raises questions among the residents — was the fire set intentionally, and did the neighbor really die due to the fire?
“(DP: What did the police ask?) Well, what did you hear, what do you know? I hardly knew that neighbor. I didn’t even know if there was a neighbor at all. They say this apartment was sold recently. Maybe it wasn’t even him. (DP: Was the neighbor noisy?) No. He was always very polite. I can’t say anything bad. In any case, he never bothered me. Yes, friends would come to him, but always very quietly, calmly. Maybe it wasn’t even the man they found there. But I didn’t see who was there. I just heard the voices of three people. (DP: Was that before the fire?) Yes, yes, yes. And they were behaving very loudly there. Unfortunately. (DP: Were they arguing?) Yes, they were arguing. Very emotionally,” says a neighbor living one floor below the burned apartment.
