In Riga, in Plavnieki, two cars collided — one of the drivers will lose his license and a criminal case has been initiated against him. This briefly summarizes the consequences of the accident.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Augsts Deglava and Illukstes streets: an "Audi" was making a left turn while a "Honda" was trying to make it through on a yellow traffic light, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
After the collision, both drivers managed to get out of their cars and waited for the police. The "Audi" was spun around 180 degrees during the impact, while the "Honda" ended up in a construction pit.
"How and at what moment that car appeared... My head is spinning, it’s good that no one is bleeding. It happened so fast — one moment ‘bam’ and that’s it. I still don’t understand if he was running a red light or a yellow one. Well, as always — we are all in a hurry, trying to make it, and unfortunately, this is the situation," said the "Audi" driver Andris.
The "Honda" driver indicated that he was trying to get through the intersection on a yellow light, but declined to provide further comments. Soon, a crew from the State Police arrived, as well as the man’s wife. When the law enforcement officers were helping the "Honda" driver fill out a statement, suspicions arose that his morning had started with more than just coffee and breakfast.
"The police officer smelled alcohol on him, after which he was tested. He had about two promille, perhaps that’s why it happened — the person slightly overestimated his abilities while intoxicated. Maybe it’s good that he crashed into me and didn’t hit someone while drunk," added Andris.
The first test recorded 2.04 promille, and the second — 1.72. The damaged car belonging to the man will be confiscated — it is registered in his name.
