In Riga, in Sarkandaugava, an accident occurred on Tvaika Street that led bystanders to assume that a less protected road user was harmed. As it turned out, serious consequences only affected one person — the driver of the car, who faced not only the accident but also a hangover and significant financial losses.
What residents of Sarkandaugava noticed on Sunday was that a "Ford" car was parked at the gas station "Virši" and a rental scooter was stuck underneath it. Locals not only took photos and videos but also expressed their opinions about two-wheeled vehicles, suggesting that a less protected road user had been hit, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
"If I ever see this *** riding on one wheel, I’ll ***** immediately run him over and turn him in to the police."
Residents explained that both vehicles had been in the same position since Monday. However, movement only began after 9:00 — a tow truck and the driver of the "Ford" arrived at the scene.
The woman described what she believed happened the day before: "(DP: Did you accidentally run over it?) Of course. (DP: Was there anyone on top?) No, it was just standing there. (DP: Did you run over it and leave?) Well, yes, because the tow truck could only come today. The police said it was fine to just leave it."
Law enforcement cannot confirm whether the police indeed allowed both vehicles to remain until the next day. However, it turned out that the woman's words "I accidentally ran over it" were an attempt to avoid explaining how she actually drove into the vehicle parked on the sidewalk.
"The driver of the 'Ford' was taken to a medical facility for examination, and it was found that she was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The blood alcohol concentration was 1.35 per mille," stated State Police representative Lina Bagdone.
The 'composition' created by the driver of the 'Ford' had to be dismantled by the tow truck driver. Extracting the stuck two-wheeled vehicle was not easy, and while the employee was trying to move it, the vehicle, so to speak, 'spoke.' The bike's built-in system likely decided that the man wanted to ride it, and a message sounded: "Please scan the QR code to unlock!"
It turned out to be impossible to separate both vehicles manually. It seemed that placing the front wheel of the car on wooden planks would change the situation, but that didn't help either. The tow truck driver just wiped the sweat and continued searching for solutions. "I’ve been working for a long time, but this situation is new to me, so it’s difficult," he admitted.
Soon a jack came to the rescue. The car was lifted, the two-wheeled vehicle was extracted, and set aside. The owning company reported that it is currently assessing the damage and expenses. As part of the damage recovery, a bill will be sent to the driver of the 'Ford.'
