In the Kraslava region, border guards discovered a raft with 80,000 smuggled cigarettes in the Daugava, the State Border Guard reported to the agency.
In the Piedruja municipality, border guards noticed a suspicious object floating down the Daugava River.
Using a motorboat from the State Border Guard, the officers discovered eight rectangular packages wrapped in black plastic film. Upon inspection, the border guards found 50,000 'NZ Gold' cigarettes and 30,000 'Queen Superslim' cigarettes with Belarusian excise stamps.
The cigarettes were handed over to the officials of the State Police, who initiated a criminal process.
