A young woman fell from the window of an apartment on the fourth floor in Old Riga. Upon falling onto the cobblestone street, she sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Although law enforcement is still investigating the circumstances of the incident, it does not appear that anyone else was involved, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
The calm flow of life on Theater Street was interrupted by an unusually large number of emergency service vehicles gathered at the intersection with Valnu Street. "I was walking here, there were 'ambulances', resuscitation," says a witness.
Sand was scattered on the cobblestones. People working nearby say that there was a pool of blood at this spot, so the sand is meant to cover the unpleasant sight.
"I heard that a young girl jumped out of the window. (DP: Did she jump herself?) As far as I know, yes, it seems so," says a man working nearby.
Those who frequent the area had previously noticed the girl. One man was right next to the scene at the time of the incident:
"A young girl. Something was not right with her head. I would say she was 22–23 years old. She often walked in a strange state with guys. With this one, with that one… I know she lived upstairs."
It is possible that the fall was accidental, or perhaps the girl made a conscious decision to jump out of the window.
Law enforcement notes that the police are currently investigating the circumstances of what happened. Initial information does not indicate the presence of a crime. The woman was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
