First graffiti, then fire: have teenagers in Skriveri gone out of control?

In the Aizkraukle region, the police are actively searching for malicious arsonists in connection with the fire of two cars.

Local residents suspect a group of teenagers who have been spray-painting parked cars with graffiti in recent weeks, and their "entertainment" likely culminated in arson, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).

Residents of Daugava Street were awakened at night by an explosion, followed by the wail of fire truck sirens. Firefighters arrived to extinguish two burning cars.

"I was sleeping, heard an explosion. I went there myself — the firefighters were already there and that was it. I don’t know who set it on fire," said a local resident.

The building near which the cars were located had been abandoned for a long time, but it was recently purchased by a local resident. The man started a business selling spare parts in the premises and used the burned cars, as well as the nearby fire-damaged and spray-painted vehicles, for work. According to locals, the group of teenagers chose these "wrecks" and the walls of the building as a "canvas" for their "artworks."

"He said — some teenagers, hooligans, who had already been acting there a week before. They were painting, spray-painting the walls and cars," a local resident recounts a conversation with the property owner.

And now, the teenagers have likely moved from graffiti to setting cars on fire. The Degpunktā program managed to contact the owner himself — he noted that he was unable to catch the teenagers.

Usually, he learns about the "signatures" of the hooligans only when he notices new paint stains on his property. This was also the case that night — the man arrived when the fire was almost extinguished.

"It had been burning for a long time, and when I arrived, it was already kind of put out — by that time, everything was already burned," said business owner Kristaps.

Both cars had been parked near the house for almost two years, while the hooligans' actions lasted only about two weeks. The business owner contacted the State Police, where a criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident.

Law enforcement is actively searching for the arsonists. If you know their whereabouts, the police ask you to call 65102500 or 112.
