In Daugavpils, a 30-year-old man killed his mother and buried her body in a forest near their home.
The 53-year-old woman was reported missing by her relatives, who sought help from law enforcement. Municipal police officers were the first to inspect the residence of the missing person, where they encountered her son, as reported by the program Degpunktā (TV3).
It is not disclosed why, but the man's behavior seemed suspicious, and officers from the State Police were called to the scene. It was discovered that there were traces of blood in various places in the house, as well as on the axe and wheelbarrow, and that the woman's belongings had been burned in a fire in the yard.
During a conversation with the police, the woman's son, a man born in 1996, changed his statements about his mother's whereabouts several times before being detained. Later, he confessed that on April 7, he struck his mother several times with an axe.
After the woman was killed with multiple blows to the head and neck and back, the son wrapped her body in a tent. Using a wheelbarrow, he transported his mother's body to a nearby forest and buried it. Law enforcement discovered the deceased in the underbrush with the assistance of canine units. On April 13, the court chose a measure of restraint for the man — detention. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are determining the motives for the crime.
The man faces life imprisonment or a prison sentence of up to 20 years.
