On Tuesday, on the highway in the Madona region, near the village of Sauleskalns, an "Audi" car veered off the road into a ditch.
The driver veered off the road, severely damaging the car. He refused medical assistance but did not hide from the police that he had violated several traffic rules, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
The course of the accident can be traced by the tire marks. First, the car went off the road, hit the curb of a bus stop, then struck the side of a bench, and also damaged other roadside infrastructure.
At the scene, it is evident that the bus stop sign has been completely knocked down. Further evidence indicates a rather high speed — the red "Audi" flipped over in the roadside ditch and flew almost 15 meters further.
State Police Inspector Agnese Stafetcka noted that the man refused medical assistance and admitted that he had consumed alcohol.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. Given that the driver refused medical help and admitted to being not only intoxicated but also driving without a license, he had to spend the rest of the day under the supervision of law enforcement.
Soon, another police crew arrived at the scene, which took the driver to their vehicle for further transport to the station in Madona. The breathalyzer showed that the 31-year-old man had 1.66 promille of alcohol in his blood.
