In the past 24 hours, the State Border Guard (SBG) has prevented 57 attempts of illegal border crossing at the Latvian-Belarusian border, the SBG reported to the LETA agency.
A total of 958 attempts of illegal border crossing have been prevented this year.
Last year, the State Border Guard (SBG) prevented 12,046 attempts of illegal border crossing at the Belarusian-Latvian border, while in 2024, 5,388 attempts were prevented.
Due to the ongoing flow of illegal migrants from Belarus, the government has extended the enhanced control regime at the Latvian-Belarusian border until June 30, 2026. The enhanced regime is in effect in Ludza and the Ludza municipality, Kraslava and the municipalities of Kraslava region, in Augšdaugava region, Daugavpils, and the Kaunata municipality of Rezekne region.
