Due to the taxi drivers' protest on Monday, April 13, significant traffic restrictions will be introduced on several central streets of Riga and on bridges during the first half of the day, bb.lv was informed by the Riga City Council.
The municipality, resigned to the inevitable, urges residents to plan their morning activities in advance for Monday.
On Monday, April 13, from 8:00 AM, participants will gather and hold a meeting on the Zakusala waterfront. From 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, traffic will be regulated along the route and on adjacent streets, and if necessary, vehicle movement will be closed.
Traffic Route: Zakusala waterfront – Island Bridge – Krasta Street – General Radzins' waterfront – Karl Milenbah Street – Emilia Benjamina Street – January 13 Street – November 11 waterfront – Stone Bridge – Mukusalas Street – roundabout on Mukusalas Street – Island Bridge – Zakusala waterfront.
Public transport movement along the route will also be regulated or temporarily restricted as necessary.
Traffic will also be restricted on all streets intersecting this route. Therefore, significant traffic delays are expected in the center of Riga and in Zadvine during the morning hours and until noon. The municipality urges drivers to plan their trips in advance, choose alternative routes, and allow significantly more travel time.
The State Police and the Riga Municipal Police will attempt to ensure road safety and public order in all specified locations at the specified times.
The municipality calls on road users to show understanding and follow police instructions to ensure the safe conduct of the event and minimize inconvenience for other residents and visitors to the city.
