Elderly Woman in Kengarags Causes Commotion Again Involving Emergency Services

In the Kengarags neighborhood, an elderly woman in a twelve-story building has once again caused a commotion involving emergency services.

Late in the evening, household items caught fire in her apartment, prompting several neighbors to evacuate the building, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).

The evacuation in the building on Latgales Street occurred shortly after ten o'clock in the evening. Local residents were not surprised by the alarm raised due to which neighbor, as emergency services have been called to this first-floor apartment before. An 80-year-old woman lives there, who has little interaction with those around her. She does not always let her daughters, who come to visit her, into the apartment. The residents of the nearby apartments suffer the most from the neighbor on the first floor.

"At least my apartment is like on a powder keg. I don’t know what illness she has. She smokes, blankets often catch fire, and she throws them out the window," says a neighbor.

"She screams every day, talks to herself. I live in fear every day," says another neighbor.

Food on the stove also regularly remains unattended. Fortunately, so far everything has ended with relatively minor damage. This time, the fire did not spread — the building's fire safety system was activated, and household items burned over an area of three square meters.

Neighbors are considering contacting the woman's relatives, and if the situation does not improve, they will file a report with the social service and the police.
