Two foreign nationals — a South African and a Latvian citizen — were found dead in a hotel on Khao San Road in Bangkok on Tuesday, April 7. Police suspect a drug overdose after a white powder was discovered at the scene.

A 31-year-old worker from Myanmar reported to the emergency services of Vajira and Siriraj hospitals after discovering a man unconscious on the floor of a hotel room. Rescuers attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but both were pronounced dead at the scene, reports Thaiger.

The deceased were identified as 30-year-old South African Anru Kruger and 38-year-old Latvian Edwards Strauja. Anru was wearing a black t-shirt, long black pants, and a black cap, while Strauja was in a black t-shirt and gray shorts.

A white powder, believed to be heroin, was found scattered on the floor near the bodies. Police reported that there were no signs of a struggle or robbery in the room.

Officers from the Chana Songkram police station arrived at the scene and began an investigation. The room where the men were found was on the fourth floor of a six-story hotel and was booked by Anru, while Strauja was staying in another nearby room.

According to the police, the men were reportedly friends and checked into the hotel on the same day — April 2.

The investigation suggests that the cause of death was a drug overdose. The substance found will be sent for laboratory analysis, and the bodies will be transferred to Vajira Hospital for autopsy.
