Authorities will not tolerate aggressive behavior in transportation.
In the state of Saxony-Anhalt, new measures have been announced to combat the growing aggression on trains and at stations. Minister of Infrastructure and Digital Affairs Lidia Hüskens stated that there has been an increase in instances of disrespectful behavior, verbal abuse, and physical assaults in recent years. Authorities are now tightening security measures to protect both staff and passengers.
The decision was made following a security conference where officials agreed to enhance cooperation and expand the range of precautionary measures. Key initiatives include increasing the number of security personnel and optimizing staff distribution. Now, multiple staff members, including passenger service agents, ticket inspectors, and security guards, will be deployed on more trains.
The minister emphasized that aggressive behavior in transportation will not be tolerated. She noted the need for practical solutions, such as digital ticket control and improved staff training. It has also been proposed to equip personnel with body cameras and expand video surveillance at stations to assist in solving crimes.
An additional one million euros will be allocated annually for these measures starting in 2025. Hüskens added that ensuring safe working conditions is critically important for maintaining the attractiveness of transport professions and recruiting sufficient staff.
Despite recent challenges, the overall level of safety in public transport in Germany remains high. The new measures aim to further enhance safety for both workers and passengers. Authorities assured that travel in Saxony-Anhalt should continue to be comfortable and reliable.
