On Thursday morning, a mysterious incident involving a man in a wheelchair occurred in Kengarags.
Initially, local residents speculated that this could be the wanted man known as "Thick," who allegedly decided not to surrender to the police and took his own life. However, it soon became clear that the deceased was another person, reports the program Degpunktā (TV3).
On the shore of the pond near the Mazjumprava estate lay a body covered with a blue blanket. Law enforcement officials were working at the scene, and a few meters from the water was a wheelchair.
It likely belonged to the deceased — this conclusion was reached by Sergey, who was resting with his family and was one of the first to notice something suspicious on the surface of the water: "I thought — maybe it’s some log. But when the rescuers arrived, I realized… (..) We looked — it was a person."
Other residents of Kengarags were also in the park near Sergey. The area was already discussing the news of a bloody shooting on Latgales Street, which had occurred less than a kilometer and a half away, and about the suspect — a man in a wheelchair. At that moment, the residents did not yet know that the man nicknamed "Thick" would later be apprehended.
The police immediately pointed out that the disabled man known as "Thick," who likely committed the crime on Wednesday, and the man who drowned in the pond near the Mazjumprava estate were not the same person. The identity of the deceased has been established, but law enforcement still needs to determine how he ended up in the water.
