In March of this year, law enforcement officers detained four individuals for the acquisition, storage, and illegal distribution of narcotic substances in large quantities, as well as for involving a minor in criminal activity.
During the searches, nine kilograms of marijuana, 50 grams of hashish, 11,671 euros, and three vehicles were seized. A criminal process has been initiated.
On March 17 and 18, employees of the 4th Bureau of the Criminal Police of the Riga Regional Department of the State Police, together with employees of the Technical Support Division of the Resource and Crisis Management Department of the Main Police Department, detained a group of four individuals involved in the acquisition, storage, and illegal sale of marijuana and hashish in large quantities in Riga, also involving a minor.
One of the detainees, a man born in 1993, organized the trade of marijuana and hashish in Riga — both through personal meetings with clients and using hiding places. Another man of the same birth year was detained at the storage location of the marijuana. In a forest near Riga, law enforcement officers detained a young man born in 2005 immediately after he retrieved a package of marijuana from a hiding place.
A minor born in 2009 was also involved in drug distribution, tasked with meeting buyers and handing over marijuana and hashish to them. He was detained right after he attempted to carry 1.2 kilograms of packaged marijuana, empty packages, a vacuum sealer, and other items related to drug packaging out of his residence in a suitcase.
In total, during the searches, law enforcement officers discovered and seized nine kilograms of marijuana, 50 grams of hashish, 11,671 euros, as well as "VW", "Toyota", and "BMW" vehicles.
For one of the men born in 1993, the court chose a preventive measure — detention with the possibility of bail, which was posted, and therefore additional preventive measures not related to deprivation of liberty were applied to him.
Regarding the minor born in 2009, the investigator requested a preventive measure of detention; however, the court denied this. In this case, a preventive measure not related to deprivation of liberty was also applied.
Preventive measures not related to deprivation of liberty were also chosen for the other group members — born in 1993 and 2005. It is noted that these individuals had not previously come to the attention of the police.
A criminal process has been initiated under part three of Article 253.1 of the Criminal Law — for the illegal manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, or shipment of narcotic or psychotropic substances for the purpose of distribution or their illegal distribution if committed by an organized group or in large quantities, as well as for the distribution of drugs to a minor. Additionally, the case is qualified under Article 172 of the Criminal Law — for involving a minor in criminal activity.
