Woman Tried to Order the Murder of Her Ex-Husband. Court Significantly Mitigated the Sentence 0 10

The same sentence was imposed on the woman's friend, who incited the crime.

As stated in the verdict, wishing to take revenge on her ex-husband for previously experienced violence and beatings, the woman, at her friend's suggestion, found and contacted a potential executor for the murder.

In 2019, they met, and the woman promised a reward of 2000 euros for the murder of her ex-husband, writing a promissory note to the man. In it, she stated that she would pay 1000 euros before the murder and the remaining amount afterward.

Later, the woman told her friend about this, who advised her to draft another note for the hired executor. She met with the man again and handed over a new note, in which she stated that after the murder, she would pay him 100 euros monthly until the entire sum of 2000 euros was paid off. To confirm her husband's death, the woman asked to send her a photograph after the crime was committed, according to the verdict.

The crime was not completed, as the man assigned to carry out the murder reported the agreement to the police. Further communication took place within the framework of a special investigative experiment, during which the suspects were detained.

At the court hearing, the man testified that, in his opinion, the woman approached him specifically because she knew he had previously served a sentence for murder. Realizing that she might approach other people with a similar request, he decided to report it to the police.

In addition to the woman, charges were also brought against her friend, who incited the crime.

The Riga City Court initially sentenced the woman and her friend to ten years of imprisonment with a probation period of one year. However, the Kurzeme District Court changed the sentence, as the defendants had not been previously convicted, admitted their guilt, and expressed remorse for their actions.
