A terrible accident occurred in Maskachka: the tram driver's cabin was almost pierced through 0 7

It is currently being clarified whether the minibus driver timely activated the turn signal or if there was something else that caused the tram driver's mistake, reports the program Degpunktā (TV3).

Two of the vehicles involved in the accident were still at the scene the day after the collision. The minibus was slightly moved to the side so it wouldn't obstruct traffic, while the roadway was still littered with car parts.

Both vehicles are severely damaged and are unlikely to return to the road. Residents of nearby houses are reserved in their comments, however, Erik, who works nearby, recounts that he witnessed the accident firsthand.

"He came out from there. (Degpunktā: And just like that?) Yes, he came out and that’s it. (Degpunktā: He didn’t see the tram?) Yes, and crashed into it. The tram was signaling and crumpled it. And that car was crumpled. Two cars were crumpled. There was a whole pile. An ambulance and firefighters, I don’t know. I’ve already mixed everything up," Erik says.

However, his account differs from what was reported to Degpunktā by "Rīgas satiksme". The official version of events currently suggests that the Opel passenger car was parked at the roadside when the minibus crashed into its side after hitting the tram.

"The tram was moving on the tracks, and in front of it was a car that, wanting to make a turn, slowed down. The tram driver did not react immediately, resulting in the traffic accident. (…) According to the information I have, no medical assistance was required," noted the representative of "Rīgas satiksme", Baiba Bartashevicha-Feldmane.

An administrative offense process has been initiated regarding the incident. "Rīgas satiksme" reported that after the collision, the tram services on routes No. 7 and No. 14 were halted for about 40 minutes.
