In Riga, son threw his elderly mother from the 4th floor – woman died 0 12

On the night of March 2, the police received a call from residents of the Latgale suburb reporting that a conflict had occurred in an apartment and that a crime may have been committed.

A conflict erupted in one of the apartments between a man and his mother. The man beat his mother and then threw her from the balcony of the fourth floor. The woman died.

At the moment when the police opened the apartment door, the suspect also jumped from the balcony, sustaining various injuries. He was taken to a medical facility.

Previously, the police had not received any information about conflicts between these individuals; however, the suspect, a man born in 1978, had already come to the attention of law enforcement for assaulting a public official or another official person.

The police have opened a criminal case for murder. The law provides for life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term of five to 20 years with probation supervision for up to three years for such a crime.

On March 3, as a preventive measure, the suspect was placed in custody.
