Cameras in Dubrovin Park in Daugavpils captured the moment of the explosion of the so-called 'Eternal Flame'. Shortly after 10 a.m., a maintenance worker arrived to inspect the site, but due to a possible gas leak, the memorial exploded 20 seconds later, throwing the man into the air, as reported by TV3.

Immediately after that, he tried to get to his feet but remained on all fours. The video has been edited. It then shows that after one and a half minutes, medical personnel arrived at the scene, after which the man is no longer seen in the footage.

The program 'Degpunktā' attempted to contact the Daugavpils City Council to find out who oversees the memorial and is responsible for its maintenance. It turned out that this is not within their competence.

Six days have passed since the explosion, but the memorial has still not been restored. The 'Eternal Flame' has been extinguished, and the area is cordoned off with tape. The consequences of the explosion are also not visible from this distance.

Liquefied petroleum gas was used to maintain the 'Eternal Flame'. 'Degpunktā' reached out to 'Latvijas propāna gāze', but was unable to make contact. The question of responsibility remains unanswered. The information provided by the police is also scarce.

"A check has been initiated in the Southern Latgale division of the Latgale Regional Department of the State Police in connection with this event, and the circumstances of what happened are being clarified," commented police representative Julia Jurjane.

It is expected that questions about this incident will also arise in the coming days from the State Labor Inspectorate.
