Horror: Six People Sent to Hospital After Major Accident on Kekava Ring Road

As a result of a major traffic accident that occurred on Sunday morning on the Kekava Ring Road, six people were injured. All of them have been transported to the hospital in stable condition, the Emergency Medical Service reported to the LETA agency.

At the scene, medics provided assistance to 16 victims, six of whom required hospitalization.

As reported, the accident occurred at the 18th kilometer of the Bauska Highway (A7) on the section of the Kekava Ring Road between Baloži and the Riga Ring Road. Eight vehicles were involved in the collision - six passenger cars and two trucks, including a gas tanker, which ended up in a ditch as a result of the accident.

The State Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) reported that gas is leaking from the overturned gas tanker. The involvement of the State Environmental Service in the aftermath of the accident is not required.

Witnesses report that this morning, thick fog hampered traffic at the accident site, while the sun was shining brightly.

Traffic on the Kekava Ring Road is blocked in both directions due to the accident. The accident site can be bypassed via the Lapenieki-Kekava-Gugi road (P137) or other roads.

An operational headquarters has been established to coordinate the aftermath of the accident, said SFRS representative Anita Strazdiņa to the LETA agency.

It includes representatives from the SFRS, Emergency Medical Service, State Police, LLC "Latvijas propāna gāze", JSC "Sadales tīkls", Road Safety Directorate, State JSC "Latvijas autoceļu uzturētājs", and municipal police. The National Armed Forces have been involved in the work at the accident site.

The company "Latvijas valsts ceļi" reports that it will likely take at least several hours to resume traffic.
