Riga Housing Management Scared Its Clients with Fictional Debts. Then Apologized

This week, many residents of Riga received a distressing message from the municipal housing management Rīgas namu pārvaldnieks (RNP). Even those who pay their bills on time were accused of unpaid debts.

In a message sent to Riga residents unfortunate enough to be clients of RNP, it was stated:

“According to the information we have, we have not received payment from you for the previous period. Please refer to the 'Bill Archive' section for detailed information.

To avoid any possible inconveniences, we kindly ask you to make the payment immediately. In accordance with regulatory requirements, information about your debt may be transferred to a debt collection agency.”

A couple of days later, a new message from RNP arrived:

“Many of our clients received a mistakenly sent notification 'Regarding Delay in Payment of Bill.'

If you also received such a message, we sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding and ask you to disregard this notification.”

It should be noted that RNP has tested the mental stability of its clients before. Last summer, for example, RNP persistently sent requests to verify water meters. This demand came after the Latvian government, led by E. Silin, canceled the mandatory verification of meters.

By the way, RNP also apologized for that.
