In Riga on Thursday evening, five people were injured in a traffic accident, including three officers of the State Police, the LETA agency was informed by the State Police.
On Thursday around 8:00 PM, police noticed a BMW vehicle with foreign license plates on the Island Bridge, whose driver grossly violated traffic rules.
The police decided to stop the vehicle and activated their flashing lights. At the same time, a check of the driver's identity and the vehicle was conducted through information systems.
After the check, the law enforcement officers decided to move to a location with less traffic intensity, but did not manage to do so, as another BMW vehicle crashed into the police car that was stationary with its flashing lights on.
As a result of the collision, the police car also crashed into the previously stopped BMW vehicle.
Five people were injured in the accident, including three officers of the State Police. All the injured were taken to a medical facility.
An administrative offense process has been initiated regarding the incident, video recordings have been requested, and the circumstances of the event are being clarified.
