Usually, the police have to stop cars and motorcycles for traffic violations, but recently, a much more unusual chase occurred in Bauska, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3). One local resident reported a quad bike theft — the vehicle was declared wanted, and soon it was spotted dangerously racing through the streets of the city.
A quad bike was racing through the streets of Bauska, with the police in pursuit. At the end of the year, locals witnessed this unusual situation. It all started with a phone call from a city resident to the police about the theft of a vehicle. The arriving law enforcement officers found the owner and his guests at the scene — it turned out that two drunken guests had stolen the quad bike.
“Upon arrival, it was established that several people were consuming alcohol together. They were all acquainted with each other. Two of this group took the owner’s quad bike without permission and went for a ride around Bauska,” said Raymond Karlsons, the head of the Southern Zemgale Police Department.
The police began searching for the thieves, and they didn’t have to look long — they were spotted right on Rigas Street. Seeing the approaching patrol, the passenger decided to jump off the quad bike, hoping to escape. But the crew quickly detained him. Meanwhile, the driver continued the chase through the city streets.
“It was absolute madness. I open the door — and there’s a police van with flashing lights. I saw three women in uniform, one was arrested and led down the slope into the yard. And the other — carefully on the quad bike — drove past my car and left,” said local resident Liva, who witnessed the events.
Another patrol car was called in to detain the quad biker. Liva and other locals watched as the reckless driver went back and forth on the street. The chase lasted about ten minutes — the driver did not give up without resistance.
According to the police, during the escape attempt, the quad bike deliberately collided with the service vehicle several times.
Soon, the offender was stopped, and the vehicle was returned to the owner. The owner himself was rather reticent.
Talking to residents on Rigas Street, it becomes clear that there are plenty of reckless quad bikers in the area: “A couple of days ago, they were racing too. This isn’t the first time these guys have been out. They crashed into my daughter’s car. There was an incident where I was almost hit.”
Whether this was the work of the same offenders is unknown, but one thing is clear: both the driver and the passenger of the quad bike have already come to the police's attention for various offenses. Both face penalties for attempting to flee from the police, and the driver additionally faces charges for theft, driving under the influence, and damaging a police service vehicle.
