The body of a murdered man was found on the balcony of an apartment building in Rezekne, the State Police reported to LETA.
On January 7, police received information about a missing man born in 1999. During operational search activities, on January 9, his body was discovered on the balcony of an apartment building in Rezekne, showing signs of violent death. According to preliminary information, the man sustained severe injuries, and his body was wrapped in a sheet.
As a result of the preliminary investigation and operational actions, employees of the Investigative Department of the Northern Latgale Division of the Latgale Regional Police, together with colleagues from the Riga Regional Police and the Main Criminal Police Department, detained two possible suspects in Riga on January 11 — men born in 1993 and 1998. Both were placed in a temporary detention facility. The police continue to investigate and establish the motive for the crime.
Both detainees have been remanded in custody. It is noted that the man born in 1993 is also arrested in connection with another criminal case.
A criminal process has been initiated regarding the incident under Article 116 of the Criminal Law — intentional unlawful deprivation of another person's life. For committing such a crime, a punishment of life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term of five to 20 years with probation supervision for up to three years is provided.
