A fire was extinguished at the Stradins Hospital in Riga on Saturday evening, reported Vineta Kļavina, head of the public relations department of the medical institution, to the LETA agency.
According to the State Fire and Rescue Service, a call was received at 22:42 on Pilsonu Street, where a fire broke out in the basement of a new medical facility, covering an area of 150 square meters. Work at the scene was completed by 3 a.m.
There was no direct threat to the lives of patients and medical staff, but for safety reasons, six people were evacuated.
A hospital representative explained that the fire occurred in the connecting tunnel between Building 21 of the hospital and the A1 building.
"There is no cause for concern — the hospital continues to operate as usual, and there is no threat to patients and staff," reassured Kļavina.
The causes of the fire are being investigated, and work is currently underway to eliminate the consequences and assess the damage caused.
