The government has extended the enhanced border security regime with Belarus until June 30 of this year. The heightened control regime is established in the Ludza region, the Kraslava region, the Aushgaldauga region, and the Kaunata parish of the Rezekne region.

Last year, the State Border Guard prevented 12,046 attempts to illegally cross the Belarusian-Latvian border. 31 illegal migrants were allowed to cross the border for humanitarian reasons.

In 2024, 5,388 attempts to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border were prevented, and 26 people were allowed into Latvia for humanitarian reasons.
