After analyzing the accusations from both sides, the court decided that the husband was more at fault.

A Turkish court ruled that a rejected wife has the right to divorce as her husband liked explicit photos of other women on social media.

An unusual case occurred in the Turkish city of Kayseri, where a local resident known in the media only as HB filed for divorce from her husband, accusing him of verbal humiliation and insults, as well as spending a lot of time on social media, liking photos of other women, and leaving inappropriate comments. Her lawyers demanded financial compensation, claiming that the husband violated his marital duty of fidelity.

The husband denied the accusations and also filed for divorce, claiming that his wife insulted his father and that her constant jealousy damaged his reputation. After analyzing the accusations from both sides, the court decided that the husband was more at fault and ordered him to pay 750 Turkish lira (20 USD) in monthly alimony and 80,000 lira (2,000 USD) in compensation.

"These seemingly harmless online interactions can actually amplify emotional insecurity and disrupt the balance in relationships," the court ruling stated.

The man appealed the court's decision, arguing that the payment was excessive, but his appeal was rejected. The judge stated that by liking photos of other women, he undermined trust in the marriage.

Despite its absurdity, this case is expected to have a significant impact on how divorce cases will be considered in Turkey going forward, as some lawyers believe that online interactions, such as liking someone else's content and leaving comments, can become substantial evidence in divorce cases.

"Now, when determining the guilt of each party, screenshots, messages, and all digital interactions will be taken into account. I advise citizens to keep this in mind when using social media," said one lawyer to the Turkish newspaper Haberler.
