A calm working day at the Latvijas dzelzceļš assembly base was interrupted on Tuesday around 1:00 PM by a powerful explosion, which blew out several doors on the first floor. After the arrival of rescuers, the working day for the staff of the technical building was concluded, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
Several fire and emergency vehicles have gathered at the Latvijas dzelzceļš base in Tornakalns. The work of the rescuers has already been completed, and the building staff are hurrying to reinstall the torn-off gates and doors.
Upon arrival at the scene, it was established that an explosion had occurred, resulting in the doors of the boiler room and adjacent premises being blown out. There was also a fire of pellets inside and outside the bunker covering an area of about 10 m².
Firefighters noted that they did not encounter significant difficulties during this call. There was minor smoke, and people were evacuated from the building.
Building staff report that the explosion of the boiler was heard throughout the complex, and upon entering the smoky room, visibility was zero, making it impossible to extinguish the flames on their own. The cause of the incident is still unknown — experts will continue to investigate it. The working routine of the staff has also been disrupted: electricity has been turned off in the building, and it will be impossible to work in it fully for some time.
