For a short time on Tuesday, traffic was blocked in Carnikava, near Garupe. There was a collision between agricultural machinery and a passenger car, the driver of which did not notice the vehicle standing by the roadside performing road work. However, the accident called to the scene was not the only violation identified by law enforcement officials who began investigating the incident, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).
Firefighters cleared the roadway — debris from the car was removed from the asphalt and spilled liquids were collected using an absorbent. The damaged passenger car was towed to the roadside, and a little further away, at the site where a bike path is being constructed, the second participant in the accident stopped.
The driver of the front loader reported that he stopped at the edge of the road. A passenger car was driving from Carnikava towards Riga and collided with the stationary vehicle. The front of the car was smashed, and for a while, the accident scene was blocked.
According to the driver of the agricultural machinery, the car crashed into the rear wheel of the loader. It is possible that the driver did not notice the vehicle because he had consumed alcohol before getting behind the wheel.
Law enforcement officials determined that the driver of the car was behind the wheel in a state of severe alcohol intoxication — 2.47 promille. The man was taken to a medical facility.
The driver did not have a valid driver's license.
