According to the prosecutor's office, the prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office for the Investigation of Crimes Committed by Public Officials submitted a criminal case to the Economic Affairs Court, in which an assistant to the investigative judge of the Riga City Court is accused of disclosing confidential information and demanding material benefits.
As an employee of a government institution that was granted access to the materials of the criminal case containing investigative secrets, the accused, guided by selfish motives, illegally demanded money and disclosed part of the information contained in the materials of the criminal process.
To implement his criminal intent, the accused used an email account created for this purpose and the Telegram messaging platform, where he voluntarily contacted a person involved in the criminal process, during the communication revealing part of the information from the case materials.
For the illegal transfer of the remaining information he had about the criminal process and copies of its materials, the accused wanted 500 euros.
After that, the judge's assistant used a mobile phone to photograph at least 52 separate images that recorded the content of the criminal case materials.
For reasons beyond the control of the accused, the specified material benefit could not be obtained, and consequently, the materials of the criminal case were not transferred to the person involved in the process.
