Residents of the building on Bauskas Street in Riga, affected by the gas explosion, can apply for crisis assistance at four locations, the external communication department of the Riga City Council reported.

Applications for crisis assistance can be submitted to the Riga Social Service at Baznicas Street 19/23, to the Pārdaugava District Social Assistance and Social Services Center at E. Smilģa Street 46, to the Latgale District Social Assistance and Social Services Center at Aglonas Street 35/1, or to the Northern District Social Assistance and Social Services Center at Ieriku Street 2b.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Riga Social Service also if they need other types of assistance - clothing, document recovery, or other social support.

As reported, two people died as a result of a gas explosion in an apartment building on Bauskas Street in Torņakalns - a person who was carrying out illegal activities with the gas pipeline in one of the apartments, and an employee of the gas supply company "Gaso" who responded to a call regarding a gas leak. Two more people were injured.

The explosion in the five-story residential building occurred due to illegal actions that led to damage to the gas pipeline. As a result of the explosion, the fourth and fifth floors of the building partially collapsed, as well as the roof.
