Over the weekend, several children in Latvia suffered fractures after colliding with trees

The Emergency Medical Service (EMS) urges adherence to safety measures while engaging in winter activities, including sledding down hills.

According to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS), over the weekend, medics assisted four children aged between three and eleven who sustained serious and even severe injuries while sledding down a hill and colliding with trees.

In these cases, fractures of the facial bones, spinal vertebra injuries, and other traumas were recorded.

The EMS urges parents to ensure the safety of conditions when their child is sledding down a hill. The service advises discussing safety issues with children who go to the hill with friends or older siblings.

Before sledding, it is recommended to choose a safe slope by checking for trees or other obstacles at its base, as well as roads that could be reached.

It is equally important to ensure that there are no other people on the path before descending the hill, to avoid accidental collisions.
