The head of the Crisis Management Center, Arvis Zile, told Latvian television that information about a possible damage to the optical cable was received on Saturday, January 3, from the Crisis Management Center of Lithuania.
After contacting the owner of the optical cable, it was confirmed that the cable is damaged. Currently, the private company is trying to determine the location of the damage.
The exact causes of the incident are still unknown. The damage occurred on January 2.
“Currently, we cannot speculate on the causes of the damage. The company, conducting its own analysis and digital measurements, is also not ruling out any versions at this time,” noted Zile.
