A person was injured due to a burning Christmas tree in Riga

A person was injured in Riga as a result of a Christmas tree fire, the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS) reported to the LETA agency.

The call to Tomsona Street in Riga was received by rescuers around noon. The tree was burning in an area of two square meters in an apartment on the ninth floor of a ten-story residential building. One person was injured in the fire and was handed over to medical personnel.

Firefighters also responded to Skolas Street in Riga, where household items were burning in the basement of a six-story public building over an area of 10 square meters. Before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRS), 20 people evacuated from the building.

Last night at 1:10, a call was received on Stiebra Street in Riga, where a built-in sauna and household items were burning in an apartment on the fourth floor of a five-story residential building over an area of 10 square meters. Two injured people were rescued from the burning apartment using a fire ladder. Before the firefighters arrived, 18 people evacuated from the building.

Additionally, over the past 24 hours, rescuers received 14 calls to eliminate the consequences of road traffic accidents.

Yesterday at 10:29, a call was received in the Kalnunes parish of the Augšdaugava region, where a traffic accident occurred. At the scene, it was established that a passenger car was in the ditch, with two people inside. Firefighters extracted the injured from the car and handed them over to medical personnel.

Today at 4:21, a call was received in the Iecava parish of the Bauska region, where a truck had an accident. The driver left the vehicle before the arrival of the GPRS. Diesel was leaking from the damaged fuel tank, which firefighters pumped into the second tank of the vehicle, and the spilled fuel on the ground was collected using an absorbent.

The GPRS urges residents to be particularly careful on the roads and to choose a speed appropriate to weather conditions and the state of the road surface.

Over the past 24 hours, firefighters also responded to calls related to the ignition of soot in the chimneys of residential buildings, as well as the burning of pipes, walls, attic ceilings, and tables.

In total, over the last 24 hours, the GPRS received 73 calls — seven for extinguishing fires, 49 for conducting rescue operations, and 17 calls turned out to be false.
