In the coming hours, the Daugava River in Riga will rise by more than a meter

The Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (CEMGM) has issued a yellow warning for rising water levels in Riga.

It is expected that in the coming hours, the water level in Riga will rise to +115…+130 centimeters. The warning is in effect from Saturday, 5:00 PM, to Sunday, 6:00 AM.

The yellow warning means that the most flood-prone areas may be flooded.

On the coast of the Baltic Sea and the Gulf of Riga, strong winds combined with high waves may cause a significant rise in water levels. Caution should be exercised when moving through flood-prone areas.

Earlier, the Latvian Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology (CEMGM) issued an orange warning for strong winds on Saturday and Sunday. It is in effect from Saturday, 11:00 AM, to Sunday, 4:00 PM.

On Sunday night, northwestern winds will reach gusts of 15–19 m/s across the country, and up to 25–28 m/s on the coast, meteorologists forecast.
