As a result of a head-on collision between two cars, one person died

On Tuesday in the Talsi region, in the municipality of Libagi, one person died as a result of a head-on collision between two cars, reports the LETA agency, citing the State Police.

The traffic accident occurred around 1:00 PM. A passenger car Opel collided with a vehicle IVECO. As a result of the accident, the driver of the Opel died.

A criminal process has been initiated regarding the incident, and the causes of the accident are being established.

What exactly happened and why?

According to reports from the show Degpunktā (TV3), a 55-year-old man died as a result of the head-on collision. It is still unknown why the accident occurred. It is only known that the driver, for some reason, entered the oncoming lane.

"The driver of the Opel entered the oncoming lane, resulting in a head-on collision. The reasons — what and why — are still unknown. This will be clarified during the investigation. (...) The driver of the cargo van was taken to a medical facility with injuries," said State Police representative Din Zeimbach.

According to him, the deceased driver of the Opel was a man born in 1970.

A driver who witnessed the incident rushed to the Opel driver immediately after the collision, but he died on the spot. There are no visible skid marks on the asphalt, so it is likely that the van driver had no opportunity to avoid the collision.

The passenger car was carrying various construction materials. At the moment of impact, white paint spilled inside the car and on the driver. Together with other technical fluids from the vehicle, it covered the asphalt.

Traffic at the accident site was closed for a short time but was later regulated to one lane.

In the field of road traffic, 379 administrative decisions were made, including 131 for speeding and one for aggressive driving.

In addition, four criminal processes have been initiated for driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and one for possible driving under the influence of narcotic substances.
