Seven individuals attempted to illegally cross the Latvian-Belarusian border on Monday, according to the State Border Guard.
A total of 11,940 attempts to illegally cross the border have been prevented this year. For humanitarian reasons, Latvia has accepted 31 illegal migrants.
Last year, 5,388 attempts to illegally cross the border were prevented, and 26 individuals were allowed to remain in Latvia.
As reported, the government has decided to extend the enhanced security regime at the border with Belarus until June 30, 2026. The enhanced regime is in effect in Ludza and the Ludza municipality, Kraslava and the municipalities of Kraslava region, in Augšdaugava region, Daugavpils, and the Kaunata municipality of Rezekne region.
