On Wednesday in downtown Riga, one person was injured after a carpet caught fire in one of the buildings, the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPSS) reported to LETA.
At 14:48, firefighters were dispatched to Dzirnavu Street in Riga, where a one-square-meter carpet was burning on the first floor of a two-story administrative building. The fire was extinguished before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPSS), however, as a result of the incident, one person was injured and was handed over to the Emergency Medical Service.
In Jekabpils on Wednesday, shortly before noon, firefighters received a call to Brivibas Street, where a ceiling lamp caught fire on the second floor of a two-story public building. Five people evacuated the building before the firefighters arrived. No one was injured in this incident.
Around 13:30, a call was received in Valdlauči, Kekava municipality, where wood chips were burning in the ventilation shaft of a two-story manufacturing building, covering an area of two square meters. Twenty-five people evacuated the building before the firefighters arrived. There were also no injuries in this incident.
Over the past 24 hours, from 6:30 AM on Wednesday to 6:30 AM on Thursday, the GPSS received a total of 46 calls — 11 for fire extinguishing, 23 for rescue operations, and 12 calls turned out to be false, according to the summarized information from the service.
