The State Border Guard is asking the prosecutor's office to initiate criminal proceedings against several individuals for transporting illegal immigrants in fake police and wedding cars.
According to the LETA agency, the case has been transferred to the South Latgale Prosecutor's Office. The criminal proceedings were initiated at the end of August.
Currently, three individuals are under arrest, and one is under police supervision.
On August 21, in the Kraslava region, border guards detained a human trafficker illegally crossing the state border, who used a vehicle with a fake license plate that matched a real police car.
During operational activities, the border guards identified three more members of the organized group.
On September 3, border guards in the Kraslava region detained a citizen of Estonia who was transporting illegal migrants and attempted to flee. The trafficker's vehicle was decorated with ribbons and wedding decorations.
