In Salacgrīva, a nurse became the victim of a brutal attack by two dogs during a visit to a patient. The woman sustained serious injuries and underwent several surgeries.
A shocking incident occurred in Salacgrīva, which clearly demonstrated how dangerous the work of medical professionals and other specialists performing home visits can be. Nurse Ilze, carrying out a doctor's order, arrived at the home of an elderly patient where the dogs were roaming freely. Ilze had visited this patient several times before and had previously encountered aggressive behavior from the dogs. She always asked the relatives to ensure that the animals were isolated, but these requests were regularly ignored.
On the day of the attack, November 12, after the nurse had prepared for a medical procedure, she realized that she had forgotten to bring the necessary equipment and returned to the car with the patient's daughter. On the way, one of the dogs bit her through her outer clothing. After Ilze returned with the equipment, the dogs were still roaming freely in the yard.
After the procedure, when it seemed that the yard had been cleared of animals, Ilze headed for the car. As soon as she began to open the doors, one of the dogs knocked her to the ground, biting her on the shoulder. "I hadn’t even opened the car door when one of the dogs knocked me down. It bit into my right shoulder, and another dog bit me all over my body. The only parts that were spared were my face, which I hid in the sand, as well as my legs and right arm. All other parts of my body were bitten." The attack lasted 10–15 minutes. The patient's daughter tried to scare the animals away with a broom, but it didn’t help—the dogs became even more aggressive.
"I felt like I was in a war zone," the victim told the NRA.lv portal. "Even a severely injured person in shock can survive if they have a goal. At that moment, I was only thinking about my daughter, who will soon turn 18. I wanted to see her again and be at her birthday party." Ilze managed to reach the car and drive herself to work, where she received emergency medical assistance. Over the course of three weeks, the nurse underwent four surgeries. According to her, the injuries are serious, and recovery will take a long time.
After the attack, the patient was assigned a new family doctor. Ilze states that the injuries she sustained cannot be classified as mild or moderate, and she will be unable to work for a long time. She demands that the dog owners compensate her medical expenses, pay for possible plastic surgeries, and reimburse her for moral damages. The woman noted that her injuries are so serious that she will have to hide them under clothing, and wearing feminine dresses is out of the question.
Ilze emphasizes that this case should not go unnoticed, as irresponsible pet owners pose a threat to the lives and health of others. She believes that those responsible should face criminal charges.
