The Internal Security Bureau Detained Two State Police Employees

The Internal Security Bureau (ISB) detained two State Police employees — one on suspicion of abusing his official position, and the second for conducting business activities without registration and special permission, reports LETA citing the ISB.

In early December, the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) detained two employees of the Riga Regional Department of the State Police: one on suspicion of abusing his official position to gain advantages for himself or others, and the second for conducting business activities without registration and the necessary license.

During procedural actions, ISB officers documented and seized items related to the investigated crimes.

The ISB submitted a request to the Riga City Court to the investigative judge for the application of a preventive measure — arrest — for one of the suspected State Police employees. The court granted this request.

In the interest of the investigation, additional information is currently not disclosed.

The ISB reminds that no one can be considered guilty of committing a crime until their guilt is proven in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Law.

The ISB is a state administration directly subordinate to the Minister of the Interior. Its functions include identifying, investigating, and preventing crimes committed by employees of institutions under the Ministry of the Interior (excluding the State Security Service), as well as the Prison Administration. Additionally, the ISB investigates crimes related to violence committed by employees of the Port and Municipal Police while performing their official duties.
