On Friday, a boat with several people capsized in a lake in the Ludza region, one of whom died, and the search for another person will continue on Saturday, reports the LETA agency citing the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRSS).
A report of the incident was received on Friday at 16:16. According to the information received, a boat with five people capsized in the lake. Before the arrival of the State Fire and Rescue Service (GPRSS), a witness began rescuing the people.
Rescuers at the scene used a boat to bring five people to shore, one of whom was pronounced dead by the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) medics.
One person has not been found. Due to the onset of darkness, operations were concluded at 19:52, and the search for another person will continue today.
At 15:29, a call was received in the Valmiera region, where, according to the information received, there was heavy smoke in the entrance of a two-story residential building and in one of the apartments. At the scene, a person was carried out from the smoke-filled premises, and EMS medics pronounced them dead. In this incident, where firewood was burning in the stove and the floor area was two square meters, operations were completed at 16:49.
In the early morning at 3:18, a call was received on August Dombrovska Street in Riga, where a sauna and household items were on fire in the basement of a two-story residential building, covering an area of 56 square meters. Before the arrival of GPRSS, six people were evacuated from the building. Operations were concluded at 6:39.
Over the past 24 hours, GPRSS received 51 calls – 13 for fire extinguishing, 30 for rescue operations, and another eight were false alarms.
