The Bureau of Internal Security (BIS) has sent a criminal case to the Preili Prosecutor's Office to initiate criminal proceedings against a State Police official for the involuntary manslaughter of a child and violence against a minor, causing physical suffering, the BIS reported to the LETA agency.

During the pre-trial investigation, which lasted just under four months, the Bureau of Internal Security (BIS) established that a State Police officer, while off duty, was at a body of water with two minors.

Realizing that the children needed supervision near the water due to their lack of necessary skills, the officer left one of them unsupervised. As a result of criminal negligence, the child ended up in the water and drowned.

Criminal prosecution has been proposed against the State Police officer on two counts under the Criminal Code — for involuntary manslaughter and for violence against a minor causing physical suffering.
