In the Brasa area, the bicycle thief took a long time to choose a suitable two-wheeled vehicle until he found a pink bicycle belonging to a girl. He stole it, but escaping from the crime scene turned out to be not so easy. The family reported the incident to the police and is actively seeking witnesses, reports the show Degpunktā (TV3).
On an early Saturday morning, surveillance cameras in Brasa captured a man who, after inspecting Indrānu Street, entered one of the inner courtyards.
Soon he was seen by a house, pushing a bicycle towards the gate. He threw it over the gate, went around to the other side, and stopped. Enjoying his morning stroll, he put on headphones and presumably turned on music — "to make the ride more pleasant." He then got on the bicycle and rode away.
Watching the footage, one might think this is a resident of the house who simply forgot the key to the gate. But in reality, this is a bike thief who inspected several courtyards that night and specifically chose the brand new bicycle belonging to Imants' daughter. Imants himself noticed the theft only five hours later.
"In the morning, around 11:00. I went out, rode to the store, and passed by — didn’t even notice. Bicycles are always there, this one wasn’t alone. And the strangest thing — there were six bicycles there, two of which weren’t even locked. We only thought later — why did he choose ours? Probably because it was the prettiest," reflects Imants, the victim of the thief.
Imants recounts that the thief's ride on the pink bicycle was not as easy as the theft itself: "He was pushing it across the street, started riding — apparently, the chain came off. The bicycle hadn’t been used for a couple of months. It just stood there, it’s cold outside. And this guy spent about 4–5 minutes at the house across the street fixing the chain. He flipped the bicycle upside down and calmly fiddled with it, no one bothered him."
And so the man disappeared with the bicycle early in the morning. The vehicle is registered with CSDD, and the family has filed a report with the police. The one most affected by the theft is the owner of the bicycle — Imants' daughter.
"Well, it’s terrible, of course. She cried periodically. At first, she immediately burst into tears. Then, when she saw the video — she cried again," says Imants.
He appeals to neighbors and residents of the area to review the surveillance footage from their homes — perhaps someone captured the suspect. If anyone has seen this bicycle in the Brasa area or nearby, please report it to the police at 112 or contact Imants at 26805544.
