A citizen of Latvia detained in Austria for threatening to take hostages on a train

A citizen of Latvia has been detained in Austria for threatening to take hostages on a train traveling from Vienna to Innsbruck, police reported on Monday evening.

During the trip, a 31-year-old man stated that he would take hostages if police officers boarded the train, reported a representative of the Salzburg police.

When the train stopped in Salzburg, the man was detained by special forces. One police officer was injured when the detainee attempted to resist, the police representative clarified.

According to the police, the detainee was unarmed.

The incident occurred a few days after several people were injured on a train in the UK. In that case, a 32-year-old man was detained and charged.
